I loved learning more about the sweet characters from The Maid, especially Gran, but the mystery was ultimately a letdown。 I also didn’t understand the author’s choice to make Juan Miguel absent until the epilogue。

No。 But every time she’s misunderstood or her pure intentions are believed to be nefarious only for her to be confused, I actually am able to relate to a character for once。Not to mention the way characters can be SO rude to the main character because they don’t understand her。 I experience this almost every single day。 I don’t fit the bill for society expects from someone who is autistic。 Hopefully if anyone is looking for something to take from this pertaining to autism, people can learn from it in that way。 This got me out a reading slump, too。 That must say something。 。。。more

I had so much fun with Nita Prose's THE MAID that I ordered THE MYSTERY GUEST long before it was released。 But, after finishing it, I'm afraid lightening does not strike twice。 THE MAID was glorious because it dealt with a woman, possibly on the spectrum, who was accused of a crime and then, solved it。 The voice of the maid was delightful, structured, surprising。 The sequel, I'm afraid, has a voice and narrative that are, for lack of a better word, worn。 Most disturbing is that Prose also uses t I had so much fun with Nita Prose's THE MAID that I ordered THE MYSTERY GUEST long before it was released。 But, after finishing it, I'm afraid lightening does not strike twice。 THE MAID was glorious because it dealt with a woman, possibly on the spectrum, who was accused of a crime and then, solved it。 The voice of the maid was delightful, structured, surprising。 The sequel, I'm afraid, has a voice and narrative that are, for lack of a better word, worn。 Most disturbing is that Prose also uses the tired trope, Before and Present, a sure sign that a writer can no longer depend on a present, current narrative。 The mystery is too simple, and we honestly just don't care。 。。。more
